What is the minimum GPA required to be eligible to receive a Korean Ancestry Grant? What areas of studies are eligible?
Applicants must have at least a 3.5 GPA. Award recipients must maintain a 3.5 GPA to be eligible for award renewal. An applicant may be pursuing an undergraduate degree in any area of study.

Is the Neurolinguistics Dissertation Fellowship renewable?
No.

Is it possible to send in the entire application for a Korean Ancestry Grant via postal service?
No.

Can I send in copies of my recommendation letters for my Korean Ancestry Grant application? May my recommendation writers send in their recommendations via email?
No. Letters of recommendation must be on your educational institution's letterhead. Each signed, original letter should be placed in a sealed envelope with the words:

DINGWALL FOUNDATION KOREAN ANCESTRY GRANT RECOMMENDATION LETTER.

DO NOT OPEN.


printed on the front and SIGNED ACROSS THE BACK FLAP BY THE RECOMMENDATION WRITER. Please place all of the letters of recommendation in one envelope and send that envelope to the Foundation.

What is a CV?
A Curriculum Vitae or a CV differs from a résumé in that it is appropriate for academic or medical careers and is far more comprehensive. A CV elaborates on education to a far greater degree than a résumé.

My student records office is currently backlogged with transcript requests. May I send in an unofficial copy of my transcript?
No.

May I include my official, unopened transcript with my sealed recommendation letters?
Yes. You may include unopened, official transcripts in the same package as your recommendation letters. Recommendation letters and transcripts must be postmarked by the application submission deadline.

What are the application submission deadlines for both programs?

The deadline for submission of a Korean Ancestry Grant application is March 15, 2010.
The deadline for submission of a Neurolinguistics Dissertation Fellowship application is April 15, 2010.

How are award recipients chosen?
Korean Ancestry applicants are judged on their written statements, academic history, and the strength of their letters of recommendation. There is a strong preference for applicants of Korean ancestry, however.

Neurolinguistics Dissertation Fellowships are awarded to doctoral degree candidates possessing an excellent academic record, strong letters of recommendation, and high caliber of research and/or published papers.

What is the maximum amount of a Korean Ancestry Grant award or a Neurolinguistics Dissertation Fellowship?
The maximum amount of a Korean Ancestry Grant award is $20,000. The maximum amount of a Neurolinguistics Dissertation Fellowship award is $30,000.

I am not a US Citizen, am I eligible to receive either a Korean Ancestry Grant or a Neurolinguistics Dissertation Fellowship?
Yes. However, award recipients must be pursuing studies at well-accredited and well-established colleges or universities in the United States.

I'm a high school junior. May I apply?
No. You must be at least a high school senior to apply for a Korean Ancestry Grant.

Do I have to be Korean to apply for a Korean Ancestry Grant?
No. You must be of Asian ancestry. There is a strong preference for applicants of Korean ancestry.

I'm pursuing my doctorate in linguistics. Am I eligible to receive a Neurolinguistics Dissertation Fellowship?
Perhaps. You are encouraged to discuss a possible application with your department chair.

My grandmother is of Korean descent. Am I eligible to receive a Korean Ancestry Grant?
Yes. Applicants must be of at least 25% Asian ancestry to be eligible to receive a Korean Ancestry Grant.
